Benefits of Eucalyptus Oil and Other Essential Oils
Essential oils have long been used for natural therapeutic and medicinal benefits. These aromatic oils are extracted from plants and contain their natural essence in the form of terpenes mixed in carrier oils.
When combined with meditation, stretching, and prayer, these oils enhance your sensory experience. Some essential oils, like aloe vera or lavender, are applied directly to the skin. They're typically mixed in with lotions and other ingredients to dilute them.
Essential oils can also be used in candles and diffusers to release scents. In this manner, they're breathed in and have different effects on your body's limbic system. This can calm you, cheer you up, or take you wherever you need to be mentally. Some popular essential oils are peppermint, chamomile, and tea tree.
My personal favorite is eucalyptus oil, which is extracted from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree. These leaves are dried, crushed, and vapor distilled to extract a useful medicine.
Eucalyptus oil is an active ingredient in cough medicines like Vick's VaporRub and Ricola cough drops. These two methods of application (oral and topical) showcase the healing power of eucalyptus. It's able to clear mucus from your chest and throat easily. It's also used as a bug repellant and wound disinfectant.
The eucalyptus plant is a miracle plant, and that makes its essential oil one of the best natural medicines on our planet. We're proud to incorporate the usage of essential oils like eucalyptus into our spiritual yoga practice.
